About Kingston
Kingston is a beautiful city with a lot to offer visitors and residents.
With a population of approximately 150,000, Kingston is the perfect size:
not so big that you can't meet lots of people, not so small that everyone knows everybody else's business :)
The lake is definitely a plus. In the summer, it is absolutely
beautiful, and the Gazebo on Barrie street is an awesome place to dance on Sunday nights. We also have a lot of fun
kayaking and swimming in the lake!
Kingston's location couldn't be better: we're only 260 km away from Toronto, 295
km from Montreal, and 175 km from Ottawa. Being close to Toronto and Montreal is specially nice, since those cities
have awesome swing dance scenes - workshops and dance exchanges abound there.
There's always something to see and do in Kingston. During the school year,
there are endless events put on by students; during the summer, there are endless events put on for tourists.
Kingston is a tourist destination not only because it is beautiful, but also because
it is very important historically - it was the first capital of Canada.
Kingston is home to Queen's University, St. Lawrence College, and The Royal
Military College of Canada, making it an "education destination" as well.
There is so much to see and do in Kingston, we couldn't fill only one
page with suggestions. We've picked some places and things that we think visitors might enjoy, and you can see
more on websites provided below.
Things to see and do in "K-town"

1000 Islands Cruises Kingston
We have gone on one of these sightseeing boat tours, and we definitely
recommend it. It was very cool to learn about history and about the 1000 Islands region. The entertainment was
awesome and the food was very yummy!

The Arts
The Agnes Etherington Art Centre
There a lot of things to see at the AEAC; the collections are amazing. Located
on the main campus of Queen's University, it was once Mrs. Agnes Etherington's house. The University has preserved the
house almost as it was when Mrs. Etherington lived there, although they expanded it recently.

Curry Original
This is one of our favourite restaurants, serving authentic Indian cuisine
that is so delicious, and always giving you the best service in town. Don't like spicy food? No big deal.
Curry Original has several non-spicy dishes that are absolutely amazing (Mariana doesn't like spicy food). For an after-dinner
drink, Mariana recommends the "mango lassi" - a mix of mango, youghurt and sugar that is so so good! It's
very filling, though!

And finally, some events of interest if you are around next
summer:
July 13, 2006 - 18th Annual
Buskers Rendezvous
This is a four-day festival featuring many crazy acts that are
very cool to watch. Buskers from around the world hit the streets of Kingston every year, and there is always an amazing
turnout. Acts last year included "arial acrobats," comedians, a sidewalk chalk artist (think Mary Poppins, just with
superheroes instead of merry-go-rounds), fire-eaters, sword swallowers, jugglers, a guy who fitted himself through a tennis
racquet.... the list goes on and on. There's something for everyone. We recommend it!
August 24th, 2006
- 10th Annual Limestone City Blues Festival
Bring on the blues dancing! And if you don't dance, you still won't
want to pass up the opportunity to hear free blues bands by the waterfront, or while enjoying a drink with friends at
your favorite pub. It's an awesome event and we definitely recommend attending some of the performances if you are around
on the 24th.

So
these are some of the things we thought you might enjoy while visiting Kingston. This is by no means an extensive list,
so check out the Tourism Kingston Website for more information:
